What is Virgin Hair?
What is Virgin Hair?
Are you a virgin?
We mean virgin hair, of course!
If you ever looked into hair coloring products before, you may have heard the term ‘virgin hair.’ Whether you’re a virgin or not will likely affect which haircare products you choose to buy, so it’s good to know which category best represents your hair.
What is virgin hair?
To put it simply, we’re all born with virgin hair.
By virgin, we mean hair that’s never been bleached or highlighted even if it’s since been dyed over!
So if you’ve ever bleached your hair, you’re no longer considered a virgin.
Bleached your hair? You’re not a virgin!
With so many hair trends and color options, it’s hard not to be tempted with a hair transformation but bleaching your hair causes your hair cuticles to become exposed which means some products may not be suitable for you.
Knowing your hair status is important, especially when it comes to using color-depositing products on your hair. Our Supergloss is designed with virgin hair in mind. It helps enhance what you already have, enhancing your natural color and shine. What it doesn’t do, like dye, is transform your hair.
Not a virgin but still want the effects of the Supergloss shine? We have a whole range dedicated to you! Our toning conditioning glosses are for you and designed to refresh your highlights in between salon visits. They’ll help neutralize unwanted tones, condition and add shine to your hair.
Why Supergloss and bleach don’t mix
Our color-depsiting hair gloss is not suitable for those with bleach or highlighted hair and can cause discoloration. This is because, unlike dyes, Supergloss sits on top of your hair and coats your hair, without penetrating the hair shaft- and that’s how virgins can keep their virginal status after using Supergloss.
If you use Supergloss on hair that has been bleached, your cuticles are weakened from this and are now open and exposed- allowing Supergloss to penetrate your hair shaft. As the color begins to wash out, some pigments may stay trapped in the hair shaft, causing the color pigments to show as they run through, which are predominantly made up of red, green and blue.
